Friendly and cooperative relationships between Australia and Nepal began after theestablishment of diplomatic relation between two countries in 1960. Over the years, theAustralian Government and private sector have contributed to the economic and socialdevelopment of Nepal through activities and assistance in the fields of health,education, hydroelectricity, livestock, civil aviation and sustainable forestrymanagement. Besides the diplomatic ties between two countries, over the last one andhalf decades Australia has become a popular destination for Nepali students andmigrants. Due to the increased trend of migration Nepalese community in Australiahas become an integral part of multicultural society of Australia. People of Nepaleseorigin in Australia have several social interests, such as conservation of Nepaleselanguage, culture, arts and literature within Nepalese community in Australia. They arealso keenly interested in transmitting the concept of human rights, egalitarian culture,tolerant behaviour, democratic norms, infrastructural modernization and technologicaladvancement from Australia to Nepal. In order to meet these social interests, Nepalesecommunity in Australia have formed Overseas Nepali Forum, Australia in 2010 withthe undermentioned aims and objectives.
