As we approach International Women’s Day 2023, it’s worth considering how far we’ve gone in the struggle for women’s rights, as well as how far we still have to go.
Yet when it comes to women’s rights, gender equality is one of the most pressing issues in the world. Gender equality simply means that persons of all genders should have equal rights, opportunities, and treatment in all parts of society, including but not limited to education, employment, healthcare, and political representation.
While we are slowly but surely addressing gender disparity, women are still underrepresented in many sectors and face significant barriers to the advancement and equality every day. We now all live in a digital environment or digital era, and it is unquestionable that women have made incredible contributions to the digital world in which we are living. From the early days of computing to the present age of virtual reality and artificial intelligence. Against all odds their achievements in a field has never been embraced nor valued.
Fortunately, developing technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning are opening up new avenues for global empowerment of women, girls, and other underprivileged populations. There is no doubt that technology and innovation can help achieve anything from gender-responsive digital learning to tech-facilitated healthcare awareness, gender-biased violence awareness, equal job chances, and so on.
These are, of course, only a few examples of how innovation and technology may promote gender equality. There are other wonderful breakthroughs in this field, and it is important that we keep exploring these technologies in order to make it a safe place for women and everybody. With the appropriate effort and drive in closing the gap between women and technologies, it won’t be long before we no longer have to talk equality.
Let us celebrate the progress we’ve accomplished and redouble our efforts to create a better future for women and girls everywhere on International Women’s Day.
